What is EMDR**?
Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing
is a integrative psychotherapeutic intervention using bilateral stimulation proven to be useful in alleviating symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder and many other types of psychological distress. It has been especially extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. To date, EMDR therapy has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress.
EMDR may be used within a more standard "talking" therapy or as an adjunctive therapy with a separate therapist or as a treatment all by itself. The goal of EMDR is to process distressing memories, reduce their lingering effects and to strengthen more adaptive coping mechanisms.
